Walmart owned Flipkart to put the next move in food and grocery segment is in talks to buy Bengaluru-based grocery chain Namdhari Fresh. Namdhari Fresh was initiated in 2000 by parent company Namdhari Seed. The grocery store chain is a retailer of vegetables, fruits, and staples, with a bulk of its vegetables and fruits exported to Europe, the Middle East and Australia.

Namdhari Seeds, the company’s other business, is one of the largest distributors of vegetable seeds in the country and exports to Europe, Japan, the US, Western Asia, and Southeast Asia. Currently Namdhari Fresh is functional in 30 stores in Bengaluru.

According to the ET report, Walmart is said to have held talks with Namdhari, the acquisition will be made through Flipkart and counters of the deal are still in progress. Walmart is keen to get into businesses with strong agri-supply chain and Namdhari’s sourcing from farmers is a key area of focus in the talks. Flipkart is continuously working hard to craft its grocery business for the past few years. It has launched its grocery business last year with ‘Supermart’ in Bengaluru. On the other hand, Reliance is also entering into this domain and giving cut through competition to Flipkart and Amazon.

Reliance Industries Limited is also going to enter into hybrid online-to-offline e-commerce market and now has initiated withdrawing its products such as shoes, clothes, including fashion and lifestyle products from its rival marketplaces including Flipkart and Amazon.
