In another case of driver misconduct, Uber India has landed in hot water yet again. A popular TV actor hailing from Bengal has accused her Uber driver of “throwing her out” of the cab and threatening her when she was en route to a shoot. The actor, Swastika Dutta who is a part of a popular Bengali TV show, took to Facebook to narrate the horrifying tale.

She said that she had hailed a cab to drop her to her shoot location which was at a studio in South Kolkata’s Raina region. This cab was booked on Wednesday morning at 8.15 am. The driver whose name was Jamshed picked her up from her home. However, instead of dropping her at her location, he cancelled the trip in the middle of the road. He then asked her to get down from the car.

When the actor refused to get down from the car, the driver turned the car in the opposite direction and then took her to his locality. He then reportedly started hurling abuses at her. He then got down from the driver’s seat and physically dragged her out of the car.  When she started shouting for help, the accused called some of his local boys.

The actor has to rush from the place as she was getting late for her work and had people waiting for her to shoot.

She also shared the phone number of the driver, the number plate of his car and his photograph on the social media platform. Further, she said that the incident occurred in front of the Devdas restaurant in Uttar Panchana Gram between 8.15-8.45 on Wednesday morning.

The actor then discussed this matter with her father and vowed to pursue legal action against the driver. The driver has since been arrested following Swastika’s police complaint.

Swastika said that the whole ordeal has put her in shock and nothing of this sort has ever happened with her before.

In an official statement, the spokesperson for Uber India described this incident as being deeply concerning. They also added that safety standards that have been set by their community guidelines have clearly been violated by the driver. They assured that the driver’s access to the app has been discontinued. They further added that they are fully supporting the authorities in pursuing legal action against the accused.

This, however, isn’t the first time Uber has faced such a controversy. In 2014, a woman was raped by an Uber driver in New Delhi. She had entered the taxi at around 10 pm and had fallen asleep on the backseat to the car. When she woke up she noticed that she had been driven to an unknown spot where the driver proceeded to rape her. After the assault, the driver dropped her off at her home and threatened to kill her if she told anyone of what had happened that night.
