OYO partners with PlanetSpark to launch after-school learning space for children.
PlanetSpark has 400 learning centers across all the 7 Indian metro cities.
OYO and PlanetSpark plan to set up more than 500 ‘new age’ learning spaces for children across India.
Budget Hospitality chain OYO has set up a partnership with Gurugram based Ed-tech startup PlanetSpark to launch after-school learning space for children. Under this partnership, OYO and PlanetSpark are planning to set up more than 500 ‘new age’ learning spaces for children across India, catering to all the learning requirements of KG to 8th class kids in the neighborhood. PlanetSpark already operates 400 learning centers across 7 metro cities of India. Under this partnership, OYO will open its physical space for centers and will offer PlanetSpark a monetization stream that will go beyond offering areas for co-working stations and hospitality services.
According to Kunal Malik, co-founder of PlanetSpark, We agreed to deal with OYO because we found that we and OYO have same plans in upcoming months so we both thought to move forward in the same direction with joining hands rather than chasing each other.”
PlanetSpark came into action in 2016 by former Hindustan Unilever executive Manish Shopper and former UrbanClap executive Kunal Malik. The startup is funded by FIITJEE, India’s largest test prep company. PlanetSpark is working hard to organize and standardize after-school education (a segment which is 95% unorganized and offers a $62 billion opportunity) across the country. PlanetSpark raised Rs. 1.6 Crore from FIITJEE in December last year. It also counts Matrix Partners as it’s an investor. The startup trains teachers to organize tutions at homes using its gamified learning tools and innovative content for students from KG to Class 7.
OYO is on an expansion theme and disrupting the space of co-living, hospitality and co-working all at once. It has recently been funded by Airbnb besides being backed by Softbank in multiple funding rounds. The core USP of OYO is to provide a standardized experience across any of its properties and the same is lacking in the after-school education sector which makes this partnership a win-win for both the companies.
