Goa’s only app-based cab service GoaMiles welcomes Uber, Ola in Goa

Goa’s only app-based cab service GoaMiles welcomes cab aggregating services like Ola and Uber to Goa by stating that these initiatives bestowed from technology would encourage competition and assist in offering good service to the customers. Hemant Prabhu Chodnekar, Operations Manager of GoaMiles said we are not opposing Uber and Ola; we support technology and also believe in technology.  

Ola taxi services were initiated in Goa in 2014 but due to protest by local taxi operators’ state Transport Department has to cease operation of taxi facility service by Ola. In the last one year, GoaMiles has to face several troubles from private taxi operators in Goa due which more than a dozen FIRs have been filed by GoaMiles taxi drivers against local taxi operators. On this issue, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant guided local taxi operators if any further complain arises then Goa government will take strict action against the activists.

The state attracts more than seven million domestic tourists every year, who often face obstacles due to overpriced and irregular public transports system. Therefore Goa government has allowed now Ola and Uber to provide their cab-hailing facilities in Goa.

About Ola

Ola is a cab-hailing giant that came into action in 2010 by Bhavish Agrawal. This Bengaluru based company was created by ANI Technologies Pvt. Ltd. It offers cars on rent for local, outstation and airport transfers. It has its presence in pan India, Australia, New Zealand, UK, and other countries. Recently on March 22, it has done a marvelous entry in the UK by launching bright green Bajaj and Piaggio auto-rickshaws on the streets of Liverpool England. Ola initiated its services in the UK in Cardiff in April 2018 coordinated by a launch in Bristol in October and then in Bath and Exeter in November. The launch of Ola auto in Liverpool is its fifth expansion in the UK and its first step of this year to expand in the North of England. 

Bengaluru based ride-hailing giant Ola has also commenced its initial step into electric mobility market by making use of Mahendra and Mahendra Ltd’s electric cars. It is regularly concentrating to make a partial shift to electric mobility space and this mission can come life once these e-vehicles gets more efficient and affordable for the operations. Since it’s existence it is regularly raising massive funds from Japanese Conglomerate Softbank and South African Technology firm Naspers. It has recently raised $92 Million (Rs. 650 crores) in series K funding round from successful entrepreneur and Flipkart Co-founder, Sachin Bansal. It has issued shared worth Rs. 150 Crore to Sachin Bansal. 

In order to increase momentum in the launch of electric vehicles now Korean automobile major Hyundai and its subsidiary Kia have partnered with Ola by investing $300Million in it. The three major companies have done an agreement to combine develop electric vehicles ecosystem and fleet services for the global market.
