We all know that at the heart of the success of any good e-commerce company is their logistics operations. Without the delivery agents to fulfil the company’s orders, business is virtually non-existent. However, these delivery agents are often overlooked and almost always underappreciated. They are the only customer-facing squad in an e-commerce company and work really hard. It is highly important that companies should engage with these employees better.

Bigbasket, which has come under fire for mistreatment of its delivery boys in the past has made honest efforts to connect with these agents personally. The company has started a highly successful initiative called BB Rockstars, wherein the e-grocer recognises the best performers in all the regions it operates in. This event was first organized on the annual day of the company in 2018 where Bigbasket recognised the best performers across all regions. These performers were flown in from their respective regions to Bangalore, along with their family and friends and honoured for their efforts. This event was primarily organized to recognize the efforts of the employees on the lowest rung of Bigbasket.

Also, the e-commerce firm makes sure that at least one member of their management team is present at these events. Everyone including delivery boys, HR heads, Regional heads dine together and get a chance to interact with each other. This helps in improving communication in the company and honouring the employees for their efforts.

Apart from this, Bigbasket also has taken many other steps to make its associates feel more comfortable with the company. One of which is the ‘Bigbasket trust for associates’ trust which helps provide education for the workers and their families. Another program called ‘Neev’ also exists which helps train new associates for a month to familiarize them with the technology used by Bigbasket.

Since most of these workers come from a rural background with very little education, the online grocery company helps to educate them. However these benefits aren’t just limited to the employees, the firm even educates their spouses, children and siblings. The company also supports them if they want to take-up any skill-building course.

Bigbasket also provides life and health insurance to its workers without any charge. It also aims in providing a safe and secure working environment for its female employees.

The efforts that are taken by Bigbasket to take care of its workers definitely have had a positive impact on the overall morale of the company. It will increase productivity and will bring in good results in the upcoming years. The BB rockstars initiative inculcates healthy competition amongst the employees and drives productivity. This, in turn, helps the workers in providing efficient deliveries, thus increasing customer satisfaction.

All this is highly important in the highly competitive market of e-commerce. It is highly difficult to retain these workers and competitors are just waiting to swoop in these employees. An increment of even ₹ 500 means a lot to these delivery agents, thus making it even the more important to provide other benefits apart from monetary rewards to these employees.
