Ola launches Bajaj and Piaggio autos in the UK

Two ride-hailing market giants Uber and Ola are gabbing world transportation sector.

India’s biggest ride-hailing unicorn Ola made a grand entry in the UK by launching a fleet of bright green Bajaj and Piaggio auto rickshaws on the streets of Liverpool England on March 22. Ola to give a tough competition to its rival Uber at global market offering auto rickshaw rides free of cost on its first day of launch.

According to a report in LiverpoolEcho.uk, the introduction of ‘tuk-tuks’ in Liverpool was a segment of the launch of Ola’s service in Merseyside. Ola has been issued a licence in each of the Merseyside boroughs and has onboard 500 drivers so far. Folks of England are enjoying brightly painted green tuk-tuks with drivers wearing neon green jackets ferry passengers around. 

Ola said it will give more choices to customers at a global level and pay a large share of fare to drivers. The company is offering folks of Merseyside an offer of 50% if a customer downloads the app till April last and avail services of Ola Auto.

Ola made its entry in the UK in Cardiff in April 2018 followed by a launch in Bristol in October and then in Bath and Exeter in November. The launch of Ola auto in Liverpool is its fifth expansion in the UK and it first moves to expand in the North of England this year.

Bengaluru based Indian ride-hailing behemoth Ola has also initiated its first step into electric mobility space by using Mahendra and Mahendra Ltd’s electric cars. It is continuously planning to make a partial shift to electric mobility and this could be possible once these e-vehicles become more efficient and affordable for the operations. It is also continuously raising funds from Japanese Conglomerate Softbank and South African Technology firm Naspers.
